Low self-esteem and the anxiety that this causes can be an awful and lonely way to live. You believe that you’re not worthy, you’re useless, pathetic, ugly, stupid, not good enough and that everything that goes wrong must be your fault. It can make you feel panic for no apparent reason, have anxiety and panic attacks that drain you of energy for days and drive a wedge between you and the people you love and care about.
I know this because that’s how I felt for most of my teens and early twenties. At school and in my social life I really struggled with the belief that I wasn’t good enough. There were so many things that I wanted to do but couldn’t because inside I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do them without failing and looking stupid in front of everyone. Even little things like asking for help in a shop felt too difficult at times.
Approaching mid-twenties I faced the choice that we must all make – do I stay like this for the rest of my life or do I try to boost my self-esteem.
I decided to try to boost my self-esteem and take back control of my life. I started learning about psychology, researched methods that had helped other people to increase self-esteem and manage their anxiety as well as having two lots of therapy – one of traditional counselling and one of CBT with the NHS.
As this process was coming to an end I started training to become a counsellor, certain that I wanted to help other people be happy. Now, I'm a professional counsellor who is experienced at helping people just like you (and me) to boost their self-esteem and live far happier lives.
How can I help you to boost your self-esteem?
We will be focusing on two areas simultaneously. The first area is to understand why you have low self-esteem. What has caused it and what is keeping it going? The second area is to understand how you can boost your self-esteem.
There are a number of ways that we can increase your self-esteem and reduce the amount of anxiety that you're feeling. All of the methods that I use are fairly straightforward, have great results and you will be supported 100% to implement them.
