About Gwen McKerrell

Hi my name is Gwen and I’d like to welcome you to my counselling page.

Are you someone who wants a more fulfilled and productive working life.  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in a job you love?  I know I have!  My friends told me I had it all – a good job, fantastic salary, a lovely house but the reality for me was very different.  I was working long hours, my relationships were suffering and I felt unfulfilled at work.

I constantly felt out of my depth.  I worked in a high-pressure environment and felt as though there was no-one I could turn to for help.  Career progression seemed non-existent and the job didn’t meet my personal values. I felt underutilised, unappreciated and uninspired.

My confidence was rapidly reducing.  I realised that I had to do something before I reached a crisis such as losing my job.  That’s when I decided to seek help.

I was so glad I did.  I developed depths of self-confidence that I never thought possible.  I went back to work feeling more confident to deal with everyday challenges.  I learned more assertive ways to communicate with my colleagues, improving my relationships with them.  I found strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety around high level meetings, presentations and workloads.  My productivity increased and as my work/life balance and job satisfaction improved, so did my personal relationships.

But the biggest part was changing my relationship with money.  As my money worries reduced, my earnings actually rose!

I’ve never looked back and now live a more confident, profitable and fulfilling life.

So much so that I wanted to use what I learned to help people who are facing similar challenges to the ones I had faced.  I made the career change from boardroom to counselling room where I now help people like you conquer their challenges and lead more fulfilled and productive working lives.

The average person will spend 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime so wouldn’t you want your working life to be happy and fulfilled?  You can have a job you love too, and I can show you how to do it.

I work out of comfortable, dedicated counselling rooms within welcoming premises located in Kilmacolm and Cumbernauld.  Please feel free to contact me on gwenmck@hotmail.co.uk for further information.

About Me

My name is Gwen and I am a qualified counsellor with additional life coaching training.

I’m qualified to Postgraduate Level in Counselling, registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and governed by their professional Code of Practice and Ethical Framework. I have further training in coaching and mindfulness.

My counselling training was in person centred theory, however my approach is an integrative one, which is client-focussed and ensures that I will be able to find the right tool in my toolkit to best meet your needs.

Sometimes it’s hard to speak to those we are closest to as we fear being judged by or burdening them. I can offer you a safe, welcoming and confidential place to explore what is troubling you.

No matter the issue you are experiencing, I will provide warmth, empathy, acceptance and understanding.  Together we will explore the things that are troubling you to allow you to gain insights that will let you find clarity in your situation. Counselling will give you the tools to empower you to find a way towards self-healing and personal growth.

Clients often tell me that they find it easy to open-up and share their experiences with me.  They have said that they found this helped them to see their situation in a new light that enabled them to move forward in their lives.

Within my practice, I also offer Coaching, having completed coaching training specifically for counsellors.

What is coaching and how can it help you?

Coaching is more specific than counselling.  It focusses solely on a particular situation giving it the attention that it may be hard to find elsewhere.  It may also include aspects of goal setting and solution-focussed exercises.  I will listen to you, understand who you are, what you think and how you experience the world.  I will present you with an objective view that creates real clarity.  Our conversations will encourage you to rise to challenges, overcome obstacles and move towards positive action.

What is the difference between coaching and counselling?

Coaching is goal orientated and counselling is coping orientated.  Both can help you to move forward in your life and achieve the results you want.
