About counselling in retford

Choosing who to talk to is really hard and you may have spent ages trawling through the sea of profiles but don’t be disheartened, because you are right to do this because it is important that you feel comfortable and safe with the person you decide to share your inner most thoughts with. It takes a lot of courage to make that connection. If you decide that I might be that one, then please get in contact because there is no obligation at any point in our relationship. I am trained in person centred, (integrated with CBT), which means that the sessions are led by you. This in turn means that the therapy you receive is individual to you. Your thoughts, goals and beliefs will be what drives the sessions. My only agenda is to offer you a safe and accepting place to come and off-load your concerns or to work through your thoughts. My training also includes cognitive behavioural therapy, (CBT), which looks more specifically at thinking patterns and how your behaviour is influenced by conditioned thoughts and processes.

This is your journey and so I would be working with you at your pace.

experience and understanding;
It’s a big step contacting a counsellor. You want to be sure that they have the right balance of understanding, capability and experience. Perhaps, understandably, you feel apprehensive about your needs being met. I am an experienced MBACP counsellor. I have walked with many clients as they have journeyed through the counselling process and I have helped them to hold and work through a very wide variety of different issues/problems. I use a variety of techniques depending on your individual needs and preferences.

couples counselling;
do you feel that your relationship could be, or used to be, so much better? Maybe you feel that some distance has crept in or maybe there has been a significant trauma that as a couple you cant seem to move beyond. Whatever your story, if you want to find a way forward together then this could be a good starting place for you. You will both be met with sensitivity and warmth as I am not here to take sides or make judgements, my only concern is to provide a safe place for you to explore, share and hopefully come to understand yourselves and each other more.

Why I chose to become a counsellor;
I chose to become a counsellor because I believe in the potential of every person. I feel that often we carry with us the burden of either a past event or serious trauma and sometimes we just feel weighed down and we’re really not sure why. I believe that we don’t have to live feeling this way, I believe that there is another way. By talking to someone whom you feel safe and accepted with, you can leave your burdens and your weights and begin living life free from that heaviness. You can just be you. How amazing would that feel?

Training, qualifications & experience;

I am qualified as a Person Centered Counsellor integrated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I have experience of working with teenagers and adults, so age is not a problem.

I work in accordance to the principles as laid out by the BACP (British Association for counsellors and Psychotherapists). I am also a member of this association.

I am qualified as a couples counsellor (Advanced post diploma Certificate Course in Person centred Couples Counselling)

I am a qualified nurse (RNLD). Consequently I have experience of looking specifically at behaviour, its motivations and techniques for modifying that behaviour, this ties in with my CBT training.

I am experienced in both brief and long term therapy/counselling.

I attend various workshops and training events throughout the year to ensure that I am abreast the latest theoretical changes/advances and am also able to give you the best service I can.
