About Thirsk Counselling (Online)

Hi I’m Paul Cullen
Thirsk Counselling is a small private practice offering one to one therapy face to face and also online through video conferencing.  I offer this to adults over the age of 19 in the Thirsk area.
Counselling is an opportunity to be in a protected and safe space that is just for you to explore what you are finding difficult.
Often counselling can seem scary and unnerving. As a trained counsellor its my job to make you feel comfortable and safe.
People come to counselling for many different reasons, seeking answers to questions they might not know they have. My approach to counselling is only to work with what you bring into the session.

I have lived in North Yorkshire for almost a decade after emigrating from Lancashire. It was there where I trained and qualified as a counsellor in 2007.
I have always had an interest in mental health and well-being. However, academically poor when I left school, I worked in factories as a cabinet-maker for a several years before a series of life experiences and misadventures led me to working in a soup kitchen with people struggling with homelessness, substance misuse, alcoholism alongside mental health difficulties whilst also working as a window cleaner. I then worked as a support worker and therapist in a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre and then in a secondary school in pastoral care whilst I was training as a counsellor.
I moved to North Yorkshire and married, also now a father; I now spend my days working in mental health and continuing to practice counselling for a local charity.
Alongside time with my family I also try to get out into nature, by a pond, fishing for whatever comes along. I find it peaceful and it allows me to connect with a part of myself that is usually busy with life.
There have been times in my life that were not as blissful as they are today, but I realise now that we all carry our emotional luggage through our life. Sometimes when that emotional luggage becomes heavy, it can be helpful to sit down with someone and take time to stop, and be still and look through that luggage before carrying on.

Please call or email me to discuss how I can help you.

Take care

Paul
