Counselling is a process and finding a counsellor that you feel comfortable with can be a daunting task. Therefore, allow me to briefly introduce myself!
My name is Barbora and I'm the founder of Shift Counselling. I am a qualified Counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the York St John University and a Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology from the University of Worcester.
For the last three years I've been working as a volunteer in-house counsellor for the York Medical Group and have recently re-joined the Counselling and Mental Health Clinic at York St John University. I've been working mainly with adults, but I also worked with children in the past during my time with Mindful - an organisation providing online support and counselling for children.
I have always wanted to be a counsellor, providing support for those who need it. I wanted to create a safe space for people to be able to work through their issues at their own pace without having to adhere to a strict number of sessions per client. So, I decided to create Shift Counselling Services, where I can work with clients in a more flexible and personal way. I offer counselling in three languages: English, Slovak and Czech.
I decided to name my practice Shift Counselling Services because a shift is exactly what I work towards with my clients. A lot of people come to counselling looking for a change or to seek happiness, which can be a huge challenge and a hard thing to achieve all at once. However, many clients will experience some form of a shift in their emotions, thoughts or outlook during counselling sessions. This/these shifts are great building blocks that can help you on your journey of self-discovery in the counselling room as well as in your personal life.
People come to see me for a variety of reasons, some examples include:
