About Denise Caruth – Therapy New Forest

About me
There are times when life feels difficult and having the right therapist to support you through this is important. I can offer a safe, gentle space to explore what is going on.

Empathy, lack of judgement and integrity are the core elements of the therapeutic relationship I offer. Often the nature of this relationship allows clients to reveal elements of themselves, and their lives, that they may never have shared with anyone else before. The unveiling of one’s inner self in a secure space, and acceptance by the therapist, often brings relief and a growth in self-awareness and self-confidence.

I strongly believe that each human being has the innate possibility for happiness and fulfilment and I work with clients to unlock that potential.

Training, qualifications & experience
I graduated over 20 years ago and spent my early career working in industry. However, my interest in people, and helping others, led me to start my training as a therapist over six years ago. I have an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling from Iron Mill College in Exeter.

I am registered with the BACP, the organization, which oversees Counsellors and Psychotherapists in the UK and ensures its members are working ethically to their standards of practice.

I worked for 18 months as a counsellor at The Coates Centre at Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington helping individuals with grief, cancer, childhood problems and relationship issues. I currently work, voluntarily, for a local counselling agency helping individuals with depression, anxiety, trauma and complex childhoods that are affecting daily life as adults.

Further information
The process of therapy:

Therapy is a much-used term, but it is often unclear what the process actually entails. For me, the most important element of successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship. This provides the space for clients to safely and securely talk about what is going on for them.

Using attuned listening and techniques where appropriate, I help clients to make sense of what is going on and what may be underlying that. Often times, we carry influences from our childhood that may no longer be relevant to our adult lives. Gaining insight into patterns of thinking, behaving and feeling, clients are able to make choices about how they want to be in the here and now, as adults.

I am an integrative therapist, which means that my framework for practise integrates elements of different therapies tailored to each individual’s needs.

Normally, we will meet for 50 minutes weekly at the same time for 6,12 or more sessions.
