Coming to therapy, especially for the first time, can be a daunting experience. You may not know what to expect or how you are going to be received or what will be involved. But it is an important first step in changing your life or your relationship.
For your therapy to work, a trusting and genuine relationship between us is essential. So as our sessions will focus on you, it feels only right that I first tell you a little about myself and how I work. I hope that this will help you to decide whether you would like to contact me to explore further whether I am the right therapist for you.
What I can do for you
With a person-centred background, I work in a pluralistic way, employing several other approaches to therapy based on what is right for you.
I will offer you time just for you, in a safe and confidential space, where you have the opportunity to think and talk about yourself, your relationship and your concerns in a way that you often cannot do with family, friends or colleagues.
I will accept you, not judge you. I will listen empathically to what matters to you and what you wish to change. I will offer the right amount of challenge to help you gain insight. You will find that by my acting as a mirror to reflect yourself back, you are able to gain greater clarity in your thoughts and feelings. Together we will work towards improving your individual well-being, or that of your relationship, in a manner and pace to suit you, and empower you to make the changes you want in your life.
Areas of experience
I don't like to label or categorise issues. Everyone experiences them in their unique way. But for ease of reference, I regularly work with people experiencing concerns with:
Loss - bereavement, divorce, retirement and redundancy
Domestic Violence - male and female
Childhood Abuse - sexual, physical and emotional
Low self-worth/low self-esteem
Loss of focus/purpose
Alcohol and substance abuse
That is by no means an exhaustive list, but it should give you an idea of the range of issues where I can help.
So why choose me?
I have experienced being in the other chair and hope that together we can bring the positive benefits of therapy into your life too. I love what I do and am committed to sharing your journey and helping you to become the person that you want to be and helping you improve your relationship.
There are no constraints on the number of sessions you have. Some people need only a few sessions and others continue for many sessions over a period of months.
