About Counselling for Catholics in West London

Welcome to counselling and psychotherapy for Catholics in West London

Some Catholics may prefer to have a Catholic counselor.

During our first meeting I will ask you to describe your difficulties and whether you would like to have short term counselling or long term psychotherapy. This will be an opportunity for you to decide whether being in counselling with me feels right for you. I will be able to assess whether I can help you, if not, I will recommend another psychotherapist or organisation that I feel can suits you better.

Short-term counselling (8-12 sessions). During the first few meetings I will ask you to talk freely about your difficulties. I will be listening to you, but I won’t be suggesting any major changes. This will give me time to try to understand your issues or concerns. Between 5-6 meetings, if you wish so, I will try to describe how we can work together for the remaining sessions to change your ways of thinking and how to influence your emotions. Alternatively, you may already know what your main difficulty is and you will want to focus our work on the presenting problem right from the start.

Long-term psychotherapy. This is a deeply supportive form of psychodynamic therapy where you can explore your feelings and you will be able to find your psychological balance at your own pace. This form of client-centred therapy helps to integrate your thinking with your emotions and self expression. You will have time to make connections between different parts of your life, free yourself from unnecessary feelings and acquire a more integrated, stronger personality. I will encourage you to explore at your own pace your feelings in the present and from your past, your feelings about your relationships and your feeling about your future. This therapy can be open-ended or within an agreed time.

For clients who feel they have experienced neglect or a lack of empathy from people who they depended on in their past I offer psychodynamic treatment with affirmation therapy (as described by Dr. A. Terruve MD and Dr. C. Baarts MD).
