About Louise Hunter, Dipl Psych, BA (Hons). UKCP Accredited

Are you struggling with life at the moment? Perhaps you feel stuck in a rut, or are feeling sad, lonely or anxious. Dealing with a difficult relationship, or lost and just need someone to actually listen to you. Hear you. Understand you.

Sometimes it is helpful to speak to a person who isn’t directly involved in your day-to-day life in order to help you gain clarity and insight, as well as offering an empathetic and non-judgemental perspective to your problems.

There are still some common misconceptions that make people hesitant towards seeking counselling. They may believe it’s a sign of weakness and should learn to deal with problems on their own, or are fearful that once they get in touch with their feelings they will ‘go mad’; and contrary to popular belief - it’s not always 'all about your mother'!

People choose to enter therapy for a multitude of reasons; you may have a specific problem you’d like to focus on, be looking to resolve a deep-rooted issue, be in the midst of a crisis or perhaps life just isn’t ‘working’ for you anymore and you'd like some practical advice or useful techniques to adapt into your daily routine. Integrative psychotherapy will also be of benefit if you are wanting to:

- find your direction in life and discover purpose and meaning
- learn to live more consciously and ‘in the moment’
- re-discover aspects of yourself that may be forgotten
- allow yourself time and space to reflect and explore your needs and goals
- gain greater self-awareness and tackle destructive patterns of behaviour
- recognise and remove the blocks that are preventing creativity or personal growth

My Approach:

I am a UKCP accredited Integrative Psychotherapist offering both short-term counselling (6-12 sessions) as well as longer term and open-ended psychotherapy. I take a holistic approach, drawing upon a variety of theories and techniques in order to tailor the sessions according to your individual needs and goals.

Integrative psychotherapy isn’t about changing who you are, but is a process that enables you to reconnect with aspects of yourself you may have pushed down or forgotten about so that you can live life authentically. Becoming conscious of your behaviour and actions (instead of life and events 'just happening' to you) allows you to take control and responsibility for the decisions you make - so you can truly live life with purpose and meaning. Talking honestly in a non-judgmental environment and exploring emotional problems can help us to identify negative, repetitive patterns that are self-destructive and no longer serving us. This process of uncovering and acknowledging our real selves, considering our needs and aspirations and discovering our potential can essentially help us to move closer towards a greater sense of well-being and fulfilment.

It's important to find a therapist with whom you can trust to be a companion on your journey of self-discovery. My approach as a therapist is professional, yet down-to-earth. I believe compassion, care, respect, empathy and humour (when appropriate!) can be contributory ingredients to enabling self-acceptance, recognising strengths, self-worth and making the right life choices.
