About Counselling – Julia Bennett, Dip Couns, MBACP

Counselling can help you make a positive change in your life or support you through a particularly stressful or emotional time. Many of us experience moments when our problems feel overwhelming, when what we need most is to talk to someone confidentially, someone who will not judge us, who will listen, someone objective yet warm, empathic and accepting.

You may want a safe place to explore an issue that has been troubling you for years, a specific problem which is on-going or has happened recently (such as a divorce or bereavement), or indeed worries about the future. Perhaps you have a desire to change – sometimes you may not even know exactly what it is that you want to change, but you have a sense that you want more confidence or happiness or fulfillment.

Counselling can help with all of these issues, at any age, at any time. It can help you find clarity, peace of mind or understanding. It can be short term or long term and we can discuss what would work best for you.

The humanistic approach to therapy that I use means that I believe that you are the expert in yourself, and our work together is designed to help you uncover your own answers. We are all unique and consequently, I approach each client afresh.

One of the most important aspects of therapy is the relationship between the client and the counsellor, for many reasons, not least because you need to feel comfortable opening up to this person. So please contact me either for an informal chat or to arrange an initial session, as this will allow us to decide whether we can work together. There is no obligation to continue after this, but it will give us a chance to discuss what your needs are, whether you require short or long term therapy (I offer both) and how I might be able to help you.

I work with individuals over 18 years of age and with many issues including:

• Anxiety
• Stress
• Depression
• Low Self-esteem and Self-confidence
• Sexuality
• Loss and Bereavement – Grief work
• Relationship and Family Issues
• Loneliness
• Self Harm
• Codependency
• Work Related Issues
• Health problems
• Life Stage Issues such as Mid Life Crisis and Aging
