About Sidmouth Counselling

About me and my therapy practice

My name is Martin Hillson, and I am a warm, compassionate listener whose primary focus is on my clients; and listening to their problems and concerns without judgement in a supportive environment.

Whilst I have worked with clients on a broad range of issues, the areas I specialise in are:

  • Anxiety & Depression

  • Bereavement

  • Trauma & PTSD

  • Retirement

  • Loss & Change

  • Suicidal Thoughts

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and therapist, being a Registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy); and an Accredited member of National Counselling Society.  In addition I am also an “Approved Therapist” registered with Anxiety UK, as well as a Qualified Bereavement Support Counsellor. My practice is fully insured through a specialist insurer.

I offer traditional “talking therapy” which is often integrated with other techniques and creative exercises.  These include CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), mindfulness, guided visualisation, role playing, artwork and creative whiteboard exercises.

My approach is client-centred, and this means that I prioritise the needs of each client over any particular style of counselling. This is determined by what my client brings to the session; the approach they feel most comfortable with, and what we feel between us will be most effective.

I believe successful outcomes are born out of achieving a strong relationship between client and therapist.  I am passionate about the work I do; and I want to help people become the best that they can be.

To find out more about me and how I can help you, please call me or visit my website at sidmouthcounselling.com   I offer an initial 20 minute consultation at no charge. This can take place either over the telephone, via video calling or you can meet me at my practice in Sidmouth.

My private practice has both on and off-street parking with level access.

Contact me for an informal chat about what is troubling you, and together we can begin to explore ways to achieve either positive change; a new way forward, or compassionate acceptance.
