About Counselling and Psychotherapy

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling is usually short term and focusses on a situation or difficulty in the present/ recent past that you want to resolve and move forward from.

Psychotherapy is longer term work that can help you to identify and resolve prolonged patterns of self-limiting beliefs, thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are rooted in early life and childhood. Psychotherapy helps you to understand the psychological structures that you put in place during childhood in an attempt to get your needs met. This can highlight the underlying reasons that are preventing you from reaching your maximum potential and free you to pursue the future you deserve – in all areas of your life.

I have over 20 years experience of working with individuals, couples and families when their lives have been impacted by issues related to mental health and emotional wellbeing.

I have completed four and a half years of Advanced Clinical Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy training at the South Manchester Manchester Centre for Psychotherapy.

Additional training that I have undertaken includes:-

• Managing Stress.
• Working with Trauma.
• Working with Diversity in Counselling Practice.
• Body Psychotherapy.
• Working with Addictions.
• Working with people who hear voices.
• Emotional Freedom Technique.
• Certificate in Person Centred Counselling, University of Manchester.
• South Asian Perspectives in Mental Health.
• Mental Capacity Act (Advanced).
• Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults.
• Complex Needs of People With Dementia.
• Understanding Equality and Managing Diversity.
• Information Governance.
• Risk Assessment.

Professional Affiliations:-

United Kingdom Association of Transactional Analysis, (UKATA).
European Association of Transactional Analysis, (EATA).
