Mental Health Matters in the now
Counsellor in Glasgow, Glasgow City
My name is Sharon McGinley and I am an experienced BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and COSCA Qualified Supervisor.
In my private practice, Mental Health Matters (f/b mhminthenow) I work with clients who are struggling with their mental health and unhealthy coping mechanisms: clients who are presenting with anxiety disorders such as health anxiety and social anxiety, low mood, depression, low self esteem and addiction. This list is not exhaustive.
I also work in NHS24 as a Telephone Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, where I treat clients who are presenting with low mood, depression and anxiety disorders. I previously worked as an Alcohol Counsellor in an addiction service where I assisted clients non- judgementally and compassionately to healthier coping styles and a more contented life.
I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to assist clients with exploring the connections between thoughts, feelings & behaviours and how they view themselves, others and the world around them. CBT is an evidenced based talking therapy which has been shown to be effective for a wide range of problems. I also incorporate other evidenced based therapeutic approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy which assists people with acquiring courage and honesty to explore the origins of self-blame and self-criticism (the inner voice).
I believe that understanding, kindness and compassion to self and awareness you are not alone in your suffering assists with movement to change and it takes courage and honesty to open up and address your concerns and your fears. I will support, listen and work collaboratively with you to empower you to take small tentative steps on your road to better mental health in the now. However, I am aware this first step can be difficult, so I provide a free 15 minute Initial Consultation where you can discuss your current issues and expectations from therapy.
“Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Invite one to stay” – Maya Angelou
I am a COSCA qualified Supervisor and provide private supervision both to students and qualified practitioners. I have completed NHS Supervision Certificates including CTSR Workshop for advanced CBT Supervision.
