Annabel Minors
Counsellor in York, North Yorkshire
Are you feeling overwhelmed, self-critical, or emotionally drained?
Do you lie awake at night replaying conversations, worrying about what you said or did, and feeling anxious, sad, or guilty? Perhaps you’re constantly overthinking, doubting yourself, or feeling that you’re “not enough,” despite being there for others.
Therapy can help you quieten the inner critic, and reconnect with a calmer, more confident version of who you are.
When you’re the one everyone relies on
Many women come to counselling feeling lonely and misunderstood, even though they appear to be coping on the outside. You may feel reluctant to talk to friends or family for fear of burdening them, or find that you simply don’t have the energy or motivation to keep showing up for everyone else.
Counselling offers you a confidential space that is just for you, where you don’t have to be strong, capable, or hold it all together. You don’t have to do it alone.
How therapy can support you
Therapy can help you reshape your relationship with yourself and others by supporting you to:
Speak freely about your worries without feeling any judgement, easing anxiety, self-doubt, and exhausting mental loops
Understand behavioural patterns, conflicting thoughts, and beliefs so you can make choices aligned with your values and authentic self
Learn to set and maintain healthy boundaries, manage others’ expectations, and protect your time and energy without feeling guilty.
Flexible, accessible counselling
Sessions last 50 minutes and are planned with your availability and budget in mind. Sessions usually take place at the same day and time each week, however, I understand that life can be unpredictable and I can offer flexibility where this is needed.
I offer counselling sessions either in person in York city centre or online, depending on what feels most comfortable for you. Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly. Therapy may be short-term (around 8 sessions) or longer-term (typically 12–18 months), and we will take time to talk this through together so that the pace and length of therapy feels right for you.
Why work with me?
Over several years in private practice, I have supported many women who feel emotionally depleted from constantly putting others first, partners, children, family members, or work, while quietly struggling themselves. Many have learned to people-please, avoid conflict, and adapt to others in order to maintain relationships, often losing touch with their own needs in the process.
Over time, this can lead to burnout, anxiety, resentment, or a sense of having lost yourself. With the right support, it is possible to reconnect with who you are, develop self-compassion, and create boundaries that allow for a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Having lived in France for over 35 years before relocating back to the UK, I understand the sense of loss, identity shift, and isolation that can accompany major life transitions. As a bilingual therapist working in both countries, I have helped dozens of clients navigate change, rebuild confidence, and regain a sense of choice and freedom in their lives. I would love to help you too.
Previous clients have shared that therapy helped them trust their own judgement, feel more confident in decision-making, and set boundaries that reduced fatigue and overwhelm. Many experienced renewed energy and a deeper, kinder relationship with themselves and others.
