About Feelwhatyoufeel Counselling & Psychotherapy

I am a Registered MBACP (Accred) Independent Counsellor and Psychotherapist who offers Counselling, Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) services in Southampton Hampshire. I also provide Telephone Counselling and secure Online Counselling to clients in the UK and English speakers worldwide.

Seeking professional Counselling or Psychotherapy may seem very daunting and mind-boggling at first especially if you have arrived today after exploring various options without coming to any conclusions, or perhaps you already know about Counselling & Psychotherapy and therefore are seeking a new therapist, whatever your reason is for visiting my profile I would like to welcome you.

Each and every one of us experience difficulties, however different at some point in our lives. Indeed there are times we feel we can’t see the wood for the trees. I provide a warm and empathic space for clients to talk about issues that they may not normally be able to share with others, who may be too close to the situation or biased in some way. I believe clients are the experts on their lives and so, by working with you I will facilitate you on your journey, by not telling you what to do, but helping you towards a deeper understanding of your concerns. When talking therapy is not appropriate I am also able to offer healing through therapeutic tools and creative mediums.

What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?

It is often considered that counselling and psychotherapy are interchangeable therapies that overlap in a number of ways. One key difference is the length of time needed to see the benefits of the treatment. Counselling is usually a shorter treatment which helps clients deal with specific difficulties in the ‘here and now.’ However psychotherapy is a term which may be used to describe a treatment for clients with problems that emanate from the past. It focuses on ‘longer term’ help and draws on deeper changes in self-awareness and patterns of relating.

Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy:

Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy draws on elements of different perspectives and provides a unique therapy which can be adapted to suit the client’s needs. By working with you I use the insights and techniques of Humanistic Counselling, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, this may give you the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of your concerns and work towards a new and happier sense of self. Below is a very brief description of the approaches I use in my practice, you may find these present in our therapy sessions together. These approaches build a strong foundation for our therapeutic relationship to grow in a safe and supporting environment. By using Clarkson’s Five Relationship Model as a framework I am able to integrate these seemly different approaches.

Humanistic Counselling offers a non-judgemental relationship between the therapist and client; this enables the client to explore what they need and want in the ‘here and now,’ and how they can reach this goal. Gestalt Therapy in particular focuses on the development of the client’s holistic awareness of themselves, their circumstances and how they live in those circumstances. During this therapy various therapeutic tools and creative mediums maybe used.

Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on unconscious thought processes which manifest themselves in a client’s behaviour. The approach seeks to increase a client’s self-awareness and understanding of how the past has influenced present thoughts and behaviours, by exploring their unconscious patterns. Clients are encouraged to explore unresolved issues and conflicts, and to talk about important people and relationships in their life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works on exploring how negative thoughts and feelings can affect our behaviour and how different aspects of these can be changed to resolve a particular problem or issue

In addition to the above I also can offer clients Mindfulness and Art Therapy when appropriate for their needs.
