About Mary Mortimer

Experienced integrative humanistic counsellor, offering short term or open ended (long term) counselling .
Counselling can be helpful for people experiencing many kinds of distress, arising from past events or present circumstances. Short term work can be helpful in addressing a particular problem, such as anxiety, sleeplessness, work stress or a difficult decision. Working long term allows support for working at a deeper level, and a “working through” of events in the past that are affecting life today.

My professional background is in nursing, midwifery and health visiting in the NHS. I also worked with the Children’s Society, supporting children who were failing to thrive and their families.
I’m experienced in counselling in various settings, having undertaken a range of counselling courses, including a one year part time with South West London College and three years part time with Wessex Counselling Service. I taught Co-Counselling for the Bath and Birmingham Co-Counselling communities. I volunteered as a bereavement counsellor with Cruse Bereavement Care in Swindon for two years.

I hold theory lightly and have a broadly client-centred way of working. I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental, confidential space for clients to say and express anything they want, to understand their feelings and to explore possibilities and choices, as they find their own path in life. For me, the most important thing is to develop a trusting, open and accepting relationship in which clients can express and make sense of feelings and find their way forward.
I abide by the codes of ethics of BACP and UKCP
I have an inclusive policy, accepting adult clients (of 18 and over) from any background, race, colour, nationality, religion, belief and sexuality.
Please leave me a message and I’ll contact you as soon as I can. Thank you.
