About Gaina Macdonald Counselling

I am an integrative person centred counsellor offering a professional and confidential counselling service dealing with all kinds of emotional issues. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, I hold full professional insurance and upto date DBS disclosure.

I have extensive experience working with various forms of depression from mild to severe as well as Bipolar Disorder, Post Natal Depression, S.A.D, Seasonal Affective Disorder, grief and bereavement. Stress and anxiety are also issues I deal with regularly.

I’m also experienced in working with clients affected by abuse, past childhood abuse as well as more recent domestic abuse. I work well with various substance misuse issues and the impact this has on family members of addicts.

I also have a particular interest in adults on the Autism Spectrum and how counselling can benefit them.

I currently have a room in Batley, West Yorkshire where I see clients Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday. I can also make home visits to housebound female clients in the Kirklees and Wakefield areas.

Usual sessions last for 50 minutes. The first meeting is offered free and lasts for 20 minutes.

How it works

As your counsellor I will use my training to listen to you and accept you in a non judgmental way. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to provide you with the opportunity to unburden yourself and help you make sense of what you are feeling. I do this by providing a supportive relationship which then enables trust to develop and therapy to begin. I feel it is very important I provide a relaxed and calm environment for you to feel comfortable in. I believe everyone has within themselves the ability to cope with most things life throws at them. Although sometimes a little help in finding this ability and developing coping methods can be greatly beneficial, which is what I aim to provide in my counselling sessions. Everything discussed with me is treated in the strictest confidence.
