Hi, I’m Andrew, founder of mindful steps counselling and psychotherapy.

I am a BACP registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and post-graduate qualified Integrative Psychotherapist.

My job is to meet you where you are and relate to you on a very human level.  It’s about you being heard and understood, then together finding a way forward.  I use simple, down-to-earth language, moving at your pace, with endless patience.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is central to the healing process in therapy.  I endeavour to create a calm, warm, compassionate and non-judgmental environment to work in.  Not to say that it won’t, at times, be challenging but this will always be handled with empathy, compassion and respect.

Counselling is definitely not “one size fits all”.  My professional training is based around “integrative practice”.   The beauty and strength of this approach is its adaptability as the treatment methods are blended uniquely for each client.  Informed by a fundamental understanding of the different personality types, I may select elements from the following therapeutic modalities in my work with you:

Transactional Analysis
Person Centred approach
Mindfulness
EMDR for trauma (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
Guided Imagery & Metaphor Therapy
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a recommended treatment for trauma including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).   Actually EMDR is also used to treat phobias, OCD, panic and anxiety disorder and body dysmorphic disorder.  When integrated into a fuller therapeutic program, EMDR can be of great benefit in working with adverse childhood experiences and trauma.
