Life right now in lock down is really hard. There is no one alive who can tell us how to cope or what to do. The isolation or circumstances can make us feel anxious, to the point of panic attacks or sad, lethargic even depressed. These are normal reactions but when they take over or were a pre-existing issue its time to get some help. Due to COVID 19 I am working differently, Skype, telephone or online session are all available. Just find a space where you will not be disturbed and then grab a drink and we can start from the comfort of your own home.
Life often throws us a curve ball, something painful, unexpected, frightening or devastating. We all have coping strategies and sometimes they can be unhealthy ones. What happens when they don't work or they become too destructive or unmanageable? We can feel pain, fear, anxiety or depression and if we ‘carry on regardless’ we feel worse and our mental health suffers. So, we increase our coping strategies, we hurt ourselves or others and we feel life is out of control. If we still ignore our needs, we head towards dangerous territory and we find ourselves in crisis.
How we work together is something we agree on our first session. We work to stabilize the crisis situation you find yourself in. I work in two ways, short-term therapy focused on one specific area or we work longer-term and cover all bases. The choice is yours!
I spent several years in therapy because I believe in the power of therapy (you would not recognize the person I was) but also, how can I hold your hand as you go through this process if I have not done it myself?
I believe that we all have choices, we can all change, we can all make meaningful connections with others and we are all ok. I work with you not as an expert but a ‘fellow traveller ‘on your journey to feeling good again. As humanistic therapist, I look at childhood patterns, your life story (told by you for you) and how all these effects the present. There is no judgement in our sessions but there will be openness, honesty and confidentiality. Our relationship & connection will reflect how relationships work in the outside world for you.
Therapy sessions with me are warm and empathetic, allowing you to be free to express yourself in the way you want to. I use creativity, colour, music, literature, media and laughter to help with exploration of areas that maybe difficult to verbalize. By observation, challenge and joint investigation of meaning we can open new areas of growth, change and choice for you.
Each client brings something new to therapy and I treat everyone as an individual as I know one size does not fit all. I learn from every client’s experiences and I am not a blank screen, I won’t simply repeat back what I hear, if something you say affects me, and it’s appropriate I will share my emotions with you.
I work with both adults and children in a similar way and I work closely with other agencies if needed and am a fully trained & DBS checked Safeguarding designate.

There will be no pressure just an open and non-judgemental conversation. I will be completely honest with you and if I feel I can’t help you I will let you know and help you find someone who can.
In our first session, we will discuss confidentiality and agree our boundaries. Then we will start to talk about issues at your pace and get to know each other and building trust. But if you have an overwhelming urge to let out your feelings in that first session we will go with that.
I run sessions from a quiet central location in Gedling that is close to all public transport routes and a 15-minute drive from Nottingham city centre.
I work with many issues including, depression including post natal depression & seasonal effective disorder, anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, stress, panic attacks, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, family issues (including children's issues), self-esteem & self confidence, PTSD , supporting the recovery of survivors of all forms of abuse, hoarding or generally feeling sad.
With children and young people I deal with all issues but specialise in depression,anxiety, panic and anger in children.
I have personal experience of major weight loss, eating disorders and have supported several people through the whole bariatric surgery process. So this means I am able to offer a knowledgeable and experienced service to anyone at any age who has issues with food, no matter what those issues are.

I am a UKCP registered psycho therapeutic counsellor. I work for SHE.UK providing therapy survivors of sexual abuse. I have provided mental health and safeguarding support for young people at a local FE college and I have a private practice in Gedling.
I started my counselling career with Childline and spent over 10 years as a Counsellor and Supervisor with them.
I provide counselling for insurance companies and EAPs.
I am a member of the Scarborough Psycho-therapeutic Training Institute; UKCP registered and have regular supervision to ensure I provide a non-oppressive ethically boundaried practice.
All work is confidential. As a professional practitioner, I have regular clinical supervision. This offers external, professional insight.
