About Beeston Therapy Centre, Counselling, Psychotherapy & Coaching for Adults and Young People-Linda McConnachie

The stress of everyday life and the results of cumulative traumatic interactions can cause unwanted feelings, and often we can focus so much on others that we forget ourselves. If you’re reading this then you’ve already taken the first step in recognising that your own needs could do with some attention. This isn’t about being selfish, it’s about allowing yourself time and space to work things out.

Perhaps you need help finding direction in your personal or professional life or it might be that you’re feeling overwhelmed and need space to talk and be understood without feeling judged. I can work with you to explore some of the obstacles which might be getting in the way. This can include looking at the relationships which currently surround you at home and at work and how historic interactions now impact you. We can work together on identifying a way forward for you.

COUNSELLING OR COACHING?
There are many similarities associated with both counselling and coaching. Mainly, they involve looking at our view of the world, how we are shaped and how they affect the decisions we make. The biggest similarity is that they both involve the possibility of positive change and help us develop personally. Counselling is a more in-depth exploration which can help you through many problematic areas in your life, from understanding why you feel as you do, why others respond to you in ways which you don’t find helpful and also to build your self-confidence and bring you more into healthy, positive relationships with others and yourself.

HOW & WHERE I WORK:
My office is a warm and welcoming environment where you will be treated with respect. With disabled access and free off-street parking nearby, I am located in Beeston, just a couple of minutes from the A52, and with excellent local transport links. I also practice in the centre of Nottingham in a purpose-built counselling centre.

I work with children in an educational setting and with young people, adults and couples on a short-term or more open-ended basis, depending on your particular needs and on what we agree between us. This can mean we agree an initial 6-8 weeks and then re-evaluate your needs.

I am really passionate about helping others to improve their own life experience and bring about positive change. My clients often say how they were sceptical about the likelihood of change but happily able to recognise their own transformation following counselling. I have undertaken personal therapy myself, so I know what it’s like to have another person come on my journey with me and support and encourage me through the highs and lows. I have insight into the uncertainty which can accompany the decision to seek counselling but I also know the empowerment it brings.

I work integratively, which means I draw on particular models and theories which consider how our relationships with others and ourselves impact our current situation. We could look at the regrets, hopes and fears you have by talking through things or, when words are difficult, work creatively with a variety of other materials which suit your particular need at that time.

I will listen, respectfully and without patronising you. I will ll be there to help you consider why you feel as you do and understand your past experiences and their impact on your current situation. Perhaps we could look at your meaningful relationships and try to see if any patterns emerge which are contributing to your current difficulties. This often leads to new awareness, acceptance and leaves you feeling more at ease.

OTHER INFORMATION:
Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available.

If you feel ready for counselling, I can offer an initial session where we would meet for 50 minutes (60 minutes for couples) to find out what brings you to counselling and decide whether we want to work together.

Alternatively, if you’re unsure about counselling, I can offer a reduced cost, 20 minute consultation, which enables us to meet, discuss how we might work together, maybe answer some of your questions about counselling. You can then decide if you want to proceed to a more detailed exploration of what brings you to counselling and the process of counselling itself.

Should you decide to work with me, individual sessions are weekly for 50 minutes. Couples sessions are weekly for 60 minutes for 6-8 weeks with a fortnightly option thereafter, if appropriate.

FEES:
Beeston:
Individuals (50 minute session) – £45
Couples (60 minute session) – £55

The fee for a 20 minute consultation is £25.

I also offer limited discounted rates for students in Counsellor training or if you have a limited income.
