About J L Counselling MBPsS MBACP BSc (Hons)

Information

Hi, I’m Jamie, thanks for visiting my profile, I know it can be hard to get to this stage. You might be here because you feel something’s not right or you might know exactly what you want to work on. Either way couselling can help.

I have over 20 years of training and experience in psychology and counselling and I have a good understanding of how counselling works. I’ll provide a safe haven where you have my complete attention. I will listen without judgment and strive to understand your experience as fully as I can. The more you explore what’s troubling you the more you can come to terms with the past, accept where you are, and move forwards with life.

I welcome your feedback; if something’s not helping please let me know. I continue to work on my personal development and read new research in order to further develop my acceptance, empathy and understanding.

I want to do what I can to reduce the stigma of mental health. We all have the capacity to suffer and to be overwhelmed by distress. I am saddened that in our society there is still such shame attached to mental health issues. I have respect and compassion for people regardless of what they are struggling with.

It can be difficult to find the right counsellor which is why I offer a half price introductory session. This will give you the opportunity to see whether you’ll be comfortable working with me and ask any questions that you need to. Please contact me if you have any initial questions (by phone, email, or text: whichever you prefer). I look forward to meeting you.

Fees

I try to keep my fees as low as possible, while still providing a high quality service. I believe everyone should have access to therapy.

£20 introductory session

£40 for 1 hour session

£45 for evening session (from 5pm onward)

I also have some reduced-rate spaces in the daytime available for students / pensioners / low-waged clients / unemployed / other concessions (£25).
If you really can’t afford this please get in touch as I may be able to suggest lower cost alternatives.

I accept cash at the end of each session; alternatively you can pay via paypal or bank transfer prior to the session.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • BSc (Hons.) Psychology (University of Nottingham)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 2 Award in Counselling Concepts
  • A-level Psychology

Types of Therapy

  • Person-centred Psychotherapy
  • Humanistic Psychotherapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Brief Therapy
  • Music / Creative Counselling

Sometimes people prefer to use counselling creatively. It can be easier to express yourself through art or music. I have a variety of art materials and musical instruments if this appeals; but it’s up to you how you want to use counselling: if you’re more comfortable talking things through, then that’s fine.

I’ve been a mindfulness practitioner for 14 years. Meditation can be incorporated into counselling as a way of finding inner peace and resolve, but again only if it’s something that appeals to you.

  • Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Experience

As well as involvement in the areas of counselling listed, I have substantial experience in mental health working with individuals suffering with drug addiction, alcoholism, autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety and other issues. I have specific psychotherapeutic experience in brain injury, identity / personality issues, employment difficulties, race issues and discrimination.
