About Mental Health Matters

My name is Sharon McGinley and I am an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and COSCA Qualified Supervisor.   I  work in the  NHS as a Telephone Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, where I treat patients who are presenting with low mood, depression and anxiety disorders.  I also work as an Alcohol Counsellor in an addiction service where I assist clients non- judgementally and compassionately to healthier coping styles and a more contented life.  I am a Counsellor Member of COSCA (membership number 3669).  I am also registered with BABCP (membership number 170365)

My business Mental Health Matters (f/b mhminthenow) aims to assist individuals who are struggling with their mental health and unhealthy coping mechanisms.  I work with clients who are presenting with anxiety disorders, low mood, depression and addiction.  This list is not exhaustive.

I  use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to assist clients with exploring the linkage between thoughts, feelings & behaviours and how they view themselves, others and the world around them.   CBT is an evidenced based talking therapy which has been shown to be effective for a wide range of problems. I also incorporate other evidenced based therapeutic approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy which assists people with acquiring courage and honesty to explore the origins of self-blame and self-criticism (the inner voice).

I believe that understanding, kindness and compassion to self  and awareness you are not alone in your suffering assists with movement to change and it takes courage and honesty to open up and address your concerns and your fears. I will support, listen and work collaboratively with you  to empower you to take small tentative steps on your road to better mental health in the now.  However, I am aware this first step can be difficult, so I provide a free Initial Consultation where you can discuss your current issues and expectations from therapy.

“Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time.  Invite one to stay” –  Maya Angelou
