To be listened to and understood can aid in the process of managing our inner feelings and emotions and help us to find successful ways of coping with the difficulties that life throws at us. You may be experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, stress, depression or just feeling stuck. We can work together to address these issues and help you to move forward.
I believe we are all unique individuals with different needs and by having the flexibility to access different approaches we can work with what best suits you.
As a qualified integrative Psychotherapist I work using different approaches, combining elements of Person-Centred Therapy; which focuses on an individual's self worth and values, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); which focuses on thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and actions, and teaches clients how each one can have an effect on the other. CBT is useful for dealing with a number of issues, including depression, anxiety and phobias,
Transactional Analysis; which focuses on the theory that we each have three ego states: Parent, adult and child. By recognising ego-states, TA attempts to identify how we communicate, and how this can be changed. And Psychodynamic Therapy; which focuses on difficulties arising from early childhood that remain unresolved.
In a safe environment we would look at your early childhood and help you to express feelings and thoughts that have not been released before, which have resulted in dysfunctional behavioural patterns and relationships.
I work with Adults, Young People, Couples, Parent/Child relationships and groups.
I have worked for the mental health charity MIND, working with adults seeking help with various issues ranging from depression, loss, anger, abuse, anxiety, self harm and relationship problems.
Over the years I have gained extensive experience working with young people between the ages of 11 and 18. This experience has been gained through working with young people in schools, Connexions, a Pupil Referral Unit and within my private practice. I also work with young people in care and/or under social services.
As well as my private practice I also have contracts with a residential care and support agency for young people, social services and a fostering agency.
