About Havant Counselling with Dean Richardson

It’s an interesting fact that not all counsellors are qualified or trained specifically to practice counselling with couples or small therapy groups. A ‘qualified counsellor’ generally means that the counsellor has completed training in working with individuals. So, whilst not illegal under UK law for qualified-in-individual-counselling counsellors to practice working with couples & groups, completing & being certified in such training is the one of the first reasons why you’d consider choosing Dean Richardson as your counsellor.

Dean has been practising since 1999, achieving graduate & post-graduate qualifications in both couple counselling & individual counselling, followed by the Institute of Group Analysis’s National Foundation in Group Analysis.

Dean has been accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (a process that authenticates a counsellor’s substantial training and experience) since 2009 and accredited by the National Counselling Society since 2015

Dean’s primary therapeutic models include: psychodynamic, systemic, cognitive behavioural & group analysis.

Dean also specialises in the particular needs of LGBT clients in counselling (eg gay couples, questioning sexual-identity, transvestisism etc).

Finally: if you’re unsure about counselling, it’s good to know that Dean always meets with a client for an initial, no-obligation, “let’s discuss things first” 50-minute session before counselling begins in earnest. This process allows time for both you and he to make an informed decision about whether counselling with Dean Richardson, or counselling in general, could be the right decision for you.
