About Julia McRow Counselling

ABOUT ME
Making the decision to seek support is not easy. It takes courage and self awareness to recognise that you might benefit from working with a counsellor. I’m Julia, a qualified counsellor and therapist with over 500 hours of experience who currently works in North and Central London. By visiting this page you have taken the first important steps towards finding help and moving forward with your life.

After many years working in media as a television producer I decided to find a career in a helping profession. Alongside my counselling private practice, I have a background in education working with children and young people with autism and learning difficulties and their families. I have helped many people struggling with a wide range of issues in both long and short-term therapy in several different charity, business and school settings.

MY QUALIFICATIONS
I hold an ‘Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling’ from CPPD Counselling School, a course which is accredited by the BACP. I am a Registered and Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which is one of the UK’s largest and trusted bodies representing the profession and abide by their code of ethics and guidelines. I attend regular supervision, have full professional indemnity insurance and have been checked for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

WHAT IS HUMANISTIC INTEGRATIVE COUNSELLING?
My counselling training was Humanistic Integrative which means that I gained knowledge and experience of using a range of different theoretical models and approaches including Person-centred, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic, Attachment Theory and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. An integrative approach acknowledges that different clients have different needs and that no one single approach is sufficient.

MY APPROACH
The most important belief in my approach is the building of a good therapeutic relationship which is based on respect and empathy. I adapt my approach specifically to each client’s needs and choose methods which I believe will be most helpful for you. I believe that every person is unique and provide a confidential, safe, supportive, trusting, collaborative, creative and non-judgemental space for listening, reflection and growth. I will work with you to help you understand your difficulties in greater depth, what caused them and empower you to find the best way forward to live in a more fulfilling way.

MY FEES
My standard fee is £50 per hour. Sessions are payable at the end of each session by cash or prior to sessions via bank transfer. Some clients prefer to pay for several sessions in advance and I offer a 10% discount on pre-paid blocks of 10 sessions

WHERE DO THE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
I currently provide individual Face to Face, Skype, Zoom and phone therapy sessions. Face-to-face sessions are available in North London and at other locations (such as your business premises) by arrangement.

HOW LONG DO THE SESSIONS LAST?
Each individual session will last for a total of 50 minutes, usually at the same time and day each week. It is important for you to ensure you arrive on time to get the most out of your therapy, as sessions cannot be extended to accommodate late arrival.

HOW MUCH COUNSELLING WILL I NEED?
Counselling can be offered on a short or long term basis. The number of sessions depends on what your individual needs are and what you are hoping to gain from therapy. This is something we will discuss and work out together based on our initial consultation, and will be continually assessed throughout the process.

IS COUNSELLING CONFIDENTIAL?
All information is confidential between counsellor and client and even the fact that you’re seeing me is confidential. All members of the BACP adhere to the Ethical Framework for Good Practice. However, if it is believed that you may cause serious harm to yourself or others, or that a child is at risk, outside agencies may be informed, but wherever possible, this would be fully discussed with you first. If you disclose information about certain criminal or terrorist offences, then there is a professional and legal obligation to inform outside agencies without informing you first.

DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR SESSIONS?
Some clients like to give some thought to what they are going to say at their next session, but that’s not a requirement. It’s ok just to come and see what emerges. Some people do like to have ‘homework’, and we can talk about that.

HOW DO I KNOW IF YOU ARE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?
The best therapist is one that you feel a degree of trust and confidence in. I would recommend calling me or, better still, setting up an initial session. This is an opportunity to ask any questions you have and see if the chemistry feels right.
