About Melanie Hallows MBACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist
We all need help from time to time to deal with what life throws at us. Sometimes it can be helpful to talk things through with someone who is outside of our circle of family and friends and can be impartial.
There may be many reasons why you need support right now. Perhaps you are struggling with the impact of past relationships or early childhood abuse which is impacting on your current relationships. Perhaps you are a parent who is feeling overwhelmed, anxious or worried about your child’s behaviour? Or perhaps you are going through a personal crisis such as a bereavement, loss of a relationship or separation/divorce. At times like this we may be left feeling lost, anxious, overwhelmed, helpless or stressed which can have a huge impact on our mental health.
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and have worked for the past 5 years for a leading children’s mental health charity with parents/carers and children within the school setting, providing short and long term counselling. I have provided support with a variety of issues ranging from loss, bereavement, domestic abuse, self-harm, drug and alcohol addiction and anxiety and depression. I have particular experience supporting adults with relationship issues ranging from relationship difficulties with partners, children, wider family and in the workplace, to supporting adults with issues relating to separation and divorce, co-parenting, custody issues and domestic abuse. I also have gained significant experience supporting adults coming to terms with the impact of historical abuse including emotional, physical, sexual abuse and neglect.
I am an Integrative trained Counsellor which means that I recognise that all clients have different life experiences and that one approach does not fit all and I draw on different theoretical approaches that influence the way in which I work. The most important aspect of the way in which I work is the importance of the client/counsellor relationship. I recognise the importance of creating a warm, empathetic, non-judgemental space for you to explore what is troubling you. I also believe that in order to understand our difficulties today it can sometimes be helpful to explore our relationships with other significant people in our past. I work in a non-directive way, at your own pace.
Choosing the “right” counsellor for you is really important but can also be really daunting. Please feel free to contact me for a free telephone consultation prior to assessment and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. I offer a reduced fee of £30 for the first assessment session.
I work from a log cabin in my garden, separate from my home, in a quiet development in Twickenham, which provides a quiet, private, reflective space. I am close to Whitton and Twickenham British Rail and the A316, with easy access to the M3 or into London and many other good transport links. There is plenty of free, easily accessible parking. Wheelchair access.
