About Shirley Bass Counsellor and Animal Assisted Therapist AAT Dip MNCA MCMA MACC
Thinking about counselling but don't know what to expect ? Don't be afraid to make the call. The first step is always the hardest.
You are the expert on yourself and I will provide a safe place for you to explore the reasons that have led you to come to counselling. We will work together to find a way to reach your desired goals.
While training I attended an Animal Assisted Therapy workshop and was amazed at the impact of using animals within a counselling session had on the clients. Working with different types of animals from horses to guinea pigs I experienced clients having the type of breakthrough in one session that may have normally taken several sessions to achieve. I decided then to specialise in Animal Assisted Therapy which has become my passion.
I work with a wide range of issues including: anxiety, panic, suicidal ideation, caring, low self esteem, relationships.
As an Integrated Counsellor I do not believe there is only one way of counselling and I draw from different theories. But underpinning all of our work together there will be empathy, honesty and respect for you, the client.
