About Lucy Perkins Counselling

About me

A very warm welcome to Lucy Perkins Counselling.

Having worked in mental health for the NHS since 2008, I have several years’ experience supporting people struggling at different times in their lives and walking alongside those working towards achieving their goals.
I am a fully qualified and registered counsellor and I have a successful private practice in both Exeter and Dawlish in Devon.
I offer a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space for you to explore whatever it may be that’s troubling you and I will endeavour to empower you to find the solutions and contentment you’re seeking. My approach is relaxed and supportive and I will hold the utmost respect for your autonomy at all times.
I am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within this ethical framework.
More details can be found here: www.bacp.co.uk
I am fully insured and hold a full DBS check.
I have a specialist background in working with eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa) and self-harm behaviours and can offer Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT) alongside Humanistic counselling. RO-DBT is similar to standard DBT and focuses on social connectedness and learning to let go of rigidity and perfectionism.
About Counselling
Counselling is a process between two people where you may explore anything that is causing you worry, distress, discomfort or confusion. We can work together on a wide spectrum of challenging areas including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bereavement and loss, anger, phobias, OCD, addiction, work related issues, loneliness and self-esteem, to name but a few. There is no issue that is too big or too small to explore. I offer a supportive, safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to talk through any concerns or issues you may be experiencing either in the present, or from the past. I work with the Person-Centred / Humanistic model, which means that my approach is non-directive, our sessions are led by you and we go at your pace. I won’t tell you what to do, or offer ‘advice’. You are your own expert and my role is to empower you to discover the solutions to the difficulties you’re experiencing, by getting alongside you on your journey and helping you explore your world to find solutions and clarity.
Deciding to seek some support is a big step and finding the right counsellor for you is really important, so please feel free to get in touch, or make an appointment for a free of charge initial consultation (30mins) so that you can decide if I’m the right person for you to work with. This can provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and for me to explain a little more about how I work and what I can offer. You may prefer to have this conversation via telephone or email, which is absolutely fine.
