About MAC Counselling

About Me – Roslin Macdonald, Clinical Lead

‘Who am I?’ What an interesting question!

Friends, colleagues and clients would say I am ‘passionately curious, highly intuitive, warm, empathic, like a dog with a bone, down to earth, inspiring, insightful, straight talking and funny’. Generous words!

I on the other hand experience myself as ‘a happy, loving and intensely curious woman, passionate about people and constantly seeking knowledge, wisdom, mastery and connection’.

These two very different answers reflect that I cannot truly know who I am unless I allow myself the joy and the pain of being in relationship – irrespective of whether it is intimate, social or business in nature.

I believe that I offer my clients a unique, relaxed, empathetic yet professional relationship in order to help them to understand and accept who they are, while giving them tools and strategies to manage the many challenges that they may be facing in life.

Experience and Training

My studies include a Diploma in Counselling and Relationship Coaching. I am a registered Practitioner Member with COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland) as well as being a COSCA Certified Clinical Supervisor. I also receive regular Supervision for my work ensuring client anonymity is maintained throughout. My own personal development continues through attending workshops and professional development courses.

In addition to my Counselling training my business background in financial services included Sales, Accountancy, Relationship Management, Team Building, Mentoring and Personal Development across a number of different areas. As a result, I am acutely aware of the pressures of the commercial and corporate world as well as the impact of inter-personal relationships on our ability to perform, create and be happy.

Associate Counsellor

Linzi is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and offers a holistic approach to counselling for her clients, to ensure that their sessions are as individual as they are.
“As much as I have an interest in the CBT approach, I feel that it is important to listen to the needs of my clients and flex to suit their needs – some clients respond well to the tools of CBT, whereas others will be more aligned to a Person-Centred approach. Whatever those needs are, I strive to ensure that they are met on every occasion.”

Linzi describes herself as a perpetual student, with a drive to evolve and grow in her profession as a counsellor.

“I think it’s important to keep learning in my role, to ensure that my clients benefit from the most up to date and relevant approaches to therapy that are on offer. I love being able to bring my knowledge into a session and see the positive changes in my clients that they are hoping for.”
Linzi understands the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship and creates a safe and welcoming environment for her clients.
“The relationship between myself and my client absolutely sets the tone of how beneficial my counselling will be. That’s why a relationship of trust, understanding and non-judgement takes precedence in every session that I take my clients through. In order for you to share your life story, I understand that I have to gain your trust – I do this by taking my time in getting to know you and ensuring that you feel comfortable and supported in our sessions together.”
