My name is Sharon McGinley and I am registered with BABCP and also a Counsellor Member of COSCA (Scotland’s Professional Body for Counselling and Psychotherapy) which you can preview on their website. My business Mental Health Matters (f/b mhminthenow) aims to assist and empower individuals who are struggling with problems such as anxiety disorders, grief, depression, sleep problems, eating disorders and addiction and they feel there is no one who is willing to listen and hear their story non-judgementally and empathetically.
I work in both an Employee Assistance Programme as a telephone counsellor and addictions as an Alcohol Counsellor using the modality of CBT. I believe that understanding, kindness, compassion to self assists with movement towards change and it takes courage and honesty to open up and address your concerns, your fears. I will support, listen and help you take small tentative steps in your road to recovery.
I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to assist clients with exploring linkage between thoughts, feelings & behaviours to help with movement to change. CBT is a talking therapy which has been shown to be effective for a wide range of problems. I also incorporate Compassion Focused Therapy which assists people with acquiring courage and honesty to explore the origins of self-blame and self-criticism (the inner voice). I want you to know that I genuinely care. I run groupwork programmes, which address topics such as self care and compassion, working with grief, understanding emotions and substance abuse including thoughts, triggers and refusal skills and Psychoeducation on CBT.
