My name is Sharon McGinley and I am an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and for the last four years I have worked as an Alcohol Counsellor in an addiction service to assist clients with movement to social drinking or abstinence. I also work in NHS24 as a Telephone Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, where I treat patients who are presenting with low mood, depression and anxiety. I have experience of working with individuals who are suffering from emetophobia and trichotillomania. I have been a Counsellor Member of COSCA (membership number 3669) since 2017. My details are listed under COSCA website, "Find a Counsellor". I am also registered with BABCP (membership number 170365)
My business Mental Health Matters (f/b mhminthenow) aims to assist and empower individuals who are struggling with psychological difficulties such as anxiety disorders, grief, depression, sleep issues, eating disorders, trauma and addiction and they want someone to hear their story non judgementally, empathetically and assist them with movement to change. I will support, listen and help you to explore your difficulties in the now and take small tentative steps towards change through providing a safe, caring and unconditional space.
I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to assist clients with exploring linkage between thoughts, feelings & behaviours to help with movement to change. CBT is an evidenced based talking therapy which has been shown to be effective for a wide range of problems. I also incorporate other evidenced based therapeutic approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy which assists people with acquiring courage and honesty to explore the origins of self-blame and self-criticism (the inner voice). I want you to know that I genuinely care. I run groupwork programmes, which address topics such as self care and compassion, working with grief, understanding emotions and Psychoeducation on CBT principles.
I believe that understanding, kindness and compassion to self assists with movement to change and it takes courage and honesty to open up and address your concerns and your fears. I will support, listen and help you take small tentative steps on your road to better mental health in the now.
