About Rachel Maisey Counselling
I am a fully qualified Counsellor with the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from Edinburgh University, which involved training in the psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. Psychodynamic thinking explores how our past history affects us in the here-and-now and the person-centred approach honours the inner potential and wisdom within each of us. I integrate both into my practice.
I have a wealth of experience in the voluntary and educational sector, having worked at Hope Park Counselling Centre in Edinburgh and PF Counselling Agency in Morningside, where I continue to volunteer.
I am an individual member of BACP, receive regular supervision and am fully insured for the work that I do.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked for many years in education, teaching both secondary students and adults. This has given me a good grounding in communication skills and working with people from a huge variety of backgrounds. I also have three other academic degrees BA (1997 first class honours, Durham University), MA (1999) and PGCE (2000).
I also enjoy learning other languages and exploring other cultures. I welcome working with clients who are not from British backgrounds.
