About Jo Ash Psychotherapy
I have worked as a Psychotherapist for the past 7 years and currently work in private practice in Cambridge and also as a counsellor within the student services at Anglia Ruskin University for the past 3 years.
I like to prioritise the relationship that develops within the sessions with clients. It is through the process of building a relationship that personal insight to issues and a deeper engagement with the self can be reached.
I strive to provide a warm and empathic space where clients feel they can bring themselves to be heard and understood.
My work is informed by many different approaches which enables a more tailored fit for each client.
As I trained as an arts psychotherapist I also offer working creatively if appropriate to the client. This way of working does not require any particular skill just a willingness to have a go and explore. I find working with the aid of art materials or imagination can get often get to things that were previously ‘hard to put a finger on’ or difficult to talk about.
I can offer short term therapy or long term therapy with regular reviews.
I have experience of working with a wide range of issues including:Anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, confidence issues, trauma, sexual abuse, rape, family issues, relational issues, relationship issues or breakdowns, sexual and gender identity, bereavement, OCD, eating disorders, personality disorders, suicide and self harm.
I have a masters degree in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy from the Institute of Arts and Therapy in Education. I am a member of BACP and am currently working towards full accreditation with BACP. I abide by their code of ethics in my practice.
I have held three previous honoury posts within the NHS. One at a Community mental health team in Romford, Fulbourn hospital Cambridge, and with Lawrence Way counselling service where I saw patients at a GP practice. I have worked with Kids Company in London where I worked with parents and teachers within a school setting.
I previously worked for Arts and Minds, Cambridge where I held a counsellor post within the art sessions they run for people whom are struggling with mild to moderate depression and anxiety.
