About Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT (Joy Langley)

I use counselling & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to solve stressful life problems (anxiety, depression, anger issues etc). You will absorb practical ideas & solutions about how the human mind works, which is crucial in modifying destructive negative thoughts. I work with adults, teenagers, couples & children (over age of 10yrs)

Once you can make sense of why things are happening you have the opportunity to make better decisions. This leads to greater contentment (acceptance), and a sense of calmness  & reduced stress around family, friends, and work colleagues.

I use a series of therapeutic conversations over a minimum of 4 weeks to work with INDIVIDUALs or COUPLEs. The knock-on effect of any distressing issue  can be low self-esteem, poor self-confidence, or anger issues – so I explore these when needed.

 COST PER HOUR:

£50 daytime : £60 evenings

(I also work with  Healthcare companies and Employee Assistance Programs)

COMMON REASONS FOR WORKING WITH ME:

  • Something doesn’t quite feel right inside, your emotions are intense, confusing & unpredictable – you just want the old you back.
  • You feel stuck and demotivated. This could be in an area you are trying to excel in e.g. a professional assignment where you know what you need to do, but can’t understand why suddenly it all feels so complicated.
  • Then unfortunately there’s that bolt out of the blue. A sudden change in your personal circumstances due to illness, redundancy, a relationship breakup etc
  • Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) or other emotional & psychological difficulties (e.g. stress, health anxiety, spending addictions, phobias such as driving & shopping, low self-confidence and low self-esteem )

I also work with Young Children (over the age of 10yrs), Teenagers & Adults  (I have an up-t0-date clear enhanced CRB).
I have 8 years  of experience as a College Counsellor, supporting teenagers in a solution-focused way. They faced a range of difficult issues during their struggle for academic success, independence & adulthood:

relationship issues, bereavement, self-harm, psychotic episodes, stress, anger management, PTSD, body dysmorphia, sexual identity, low self-esteem and low self-confidence.

My specialism is welcomed by parents finding their teenagers transitional years both challenging & disruptive to family life.

HOW I WORK …

  • I work in a flexible manner face-to-face, via the telephone & also via SKYPE :
  • I use email support between sessions when needed, PLUS provide written sessional feedback and information sheets on specific mental health topics.
  • Psycho-education is important so I supplement this with information on suitable websites to view,  instructions on relaxation techniques & correct breathing techniques.

The well-being package supports you during and after successful completion of therapy. Two 30min follow-up phone calls (free of charge) post-therapy can be agreed, to help you maintain progress.

During our weekly hourly sessions I blend elements of :

  • Cognitive Behavioural therapy CBT (solution focused, short-term)
  • Person-Centred counselling (short to long term)
  • Life Coaching (solution focused, short-term)

These counselling processes help you to return to a positive state of “well-being.” We can  explore many areas including complex childhood & family patterns. In particular, Person Centred counselling helps you to talk in-depth about professional and family relationships.

info ABOUT …COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY  (CBT) :

This has undergone extensive clinical research to demonstrate it’ss ability to relieve :

  • DEPRESSION : including generalised anxiety & depression (GAD) and
  • ANXIETY & PANIC symptoms : including OCD & phobias

It’s an extremely accessible & interactive therapy that motivates you to take an active interest in monitoring weekly improvements in your emotional & psychological challenges.

Mood & Thought Diaries, plus recognised questionnaires (depression, anxiety, worry, social anxiety etc) track improvements. For those who like to feel they are “doing” something between sessions, tasks are set to help you gain greater self-awareness and to gather evidence.

Problem-Solving and achieving greater self-awareness are life-long processes! But it’s so much easier and rewarding facing difficult challenges with a fully qualified “professional.” I can guide you through distressing, confusing & frustrating life events, and help you come up with practicial workable solutions.
