When life feels like we are simply going through the motions, that our days blend with each other or leave us crying ourselves to sleep every night then it's time to make a change.
The fact is, some of the things life throws at us are shit. We might be struggling with a job that we hate, a family who don't understand us, absent friends who let us down or complicated feelings about who we are and the people we want to share our lives with. We might feel like we are the odd one out when everyone else seems to have their shit together.
I get it. It's not easy living this way, and it certainly doesn't have to be permanent.
But if we want things to be different then we have to be prepared to take risks. We have to change something. Maybe that thing is talking to someone.
If the idea of working with a (slightly sweary) therapist online is something you'd be interested in, read on...
Online therapy is medically proven to be as effective as face-to-face therapy. There's no reason why we should be stuck with the old ideas of meeting in a dusty counselling office or leaky summerhouse in someone's garden when we could be enjoying working conveniently, securely and efficiently online. The other bonus is that this approach to therapy can fit around your busy lifestyle, so if you're travelling for a year abroad, or get sent away for work, or perhaps struggle to find childcare, this can fit into your routine seamlessly.
For a FREE 30-minute video or voice call - where we can meet, chat about therapy and how it might be useful to you, and you can make a decision whether you'd like to work together in the future with no obligation book online instantly via my websitewww.harleycounselling.com
I also work via secure, encrypted email - if an issue that you want to work on is too hard to talk about, or you are conscious that you might feel embarrassed to bring it to a face-to-face session, or if you prefer to write rather than talk as many people do,then email therapy could be for you. Blocks of therapeutic email responses are £95 for three, and you can send your emails anytime that you choose.
I specialise in working with millennials - I'm different from many therapists. I'm a millennial too and find that this means I can relate to the issues that our generation come up against more easily than others. If you have a complicated life and are worried that an older therapist might take a more parental, judgemental role then be reassured that doesn't happen with me. I've had my struggles too, and coming through them as a stronger and more resilient person is what makes me a good therapist.
I have a sliding scale for students studying to become therapists - I know well how expensive it can be training to be a counsellor, and so I have a sliding scale offering a concessional rate to students of counselling courses. *Please note, proof of course of study will be required to obtain a concessional rate
I work extensively with GSRD clients - if you identify as part of the LGBTQI+ community then know that I have extensive experience in this area and that all are welcome in my private practice. I am a sex-positive counsellor which means that I approach any work which clients might bring regarding their sexual preferences and history without judgment or shame.
Relationships issues and generalised anxiety are the top reasons clients work with me - many others do so because they are looking for ways to resolve problems with relationships, family members or friends. They might be working out whether to have children or power imbalances with a partner. Depression, feeling sad, family issues, affairs and betrayals, separation and divorce, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), low self-esteem, and low self-confidence are also very common themes of my work.
I know that therapy can seem daunting - particularly if it's something we haven't tried before. The reason that I became a counsellor in the first place was due to the life-changing transformation that I went through in my own counselling journey, and so you can be sure that any nervousness or trepidation that you might have about making contact is something that I empathise with and will support you through. I'm a very informal person and there is no need to be anything but yourself in therapy with me. And if you don't know who that is yet, then I can help you find them.
