Introductory Statement:

I am an adult and child psychotherapist working in creative and talking therapies. I am accredited with the Health Care Professionals Counsel (HCPC) and Registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I work in accordance with their Ethical Framework.

Philosophy on counselling and psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy literally means to nurse the soul. Everyone brings their unique way of being into every relationship and I am always excited to get to know every client. The key ingredient of my work is to create a safe and respectful space where feelings can be explored in order to promote personal growth, healing and empowerment. I offer an opportunity for the client to engage in art or discussion. Image making is often appreciated by young people and adults who struggle to talk about traumatic experiences and complex emotions.

Approach and Orientation:

I am a psychodynamic and person centred therapist. Psychodynamic counselling is based on developing insight, self-awareness and understanding of how past events or trauma affect a person in the present. A person-centred approach encourages the client to explore and understand themselves, recognising their own strengths and unique identity.

Both types of therapy aim to help people gain insight, by helping them recognise certain unhelpful patterns that have developed over time. In my approach I believe that all these things provide for the individual a compassionate space in which understanding and healing can take place.

I use a non-directive approach, meaning that the client brings the material that is on their minds to their sessions. With younger children I use art materials or play as a way of supporting them to express and eventually talk about their challenges and emotions.

Experience:

I am a Psychotherapist with 15 years’ experience working for social services, GPs, local government and in self employment. Proficient in talking and creative therapy, I work with adults and children. I am experienced in delivering therapeutic interventions for: Depression, anxiety, trauma, separation and loss, transition, grief, group work, and relationship difficulties.
