About Andy Dumville Counselling and Psychotherapy in the Reading & berkshire Area

About Me

I trained for 5 years at the Metanoia Institute in London on the Msc Gestalt Psychotherapy program and graduated with a post graduate diploma in Gestalt psychological studies and am currently working towards UKCP accreditation.

Qualifications

DipHyp.

Postgraduate Diploma in Gestalt Psychological Studies (120 credits at level 7).

I am a member of the Metanoia Institute, an individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I subscribe to the BACP, UKCP and Metanoia Institute’s codes of Ethics.

My Approach

I provide a safe and confidential space for you to share and explore your problems.

Taking the opportunity to talk to someone outside your situation can enable you to see things more clearly and support you in making new choices.

My aim is to provide a safe, confidential, non-judgmental relationship that will support you to discuss and work through any issues that are troubling you. This may require short-term counselling, where you will focus on a specific issue or problem in your current life, or longer-term counselling to look at deeper and more long-standing problems.

I view the relationship between myself and my clients as unique and special. I will not tell you what to do but I will provide a space where you can reflect on what is happening in your life, gain awareness and healing, and make appropriate choices and changes. It is my belief that everyone has an inborn motivation towards health and growth. My intention is to support you with empathy and compassion to discover what is preventing you from living your life as you would wish.

You may not be sure what the problem is but have a feeling that things are not quite right. Alternatively, you may know that issues from the past are interfering with your ability to live life as you would like to. If either of these is the case then please do get in touch to see how I can help you.

About Gestalt

Gestalt is a holistic approach which explores the whole person. It combines a focus and exploration of your thoughts and beliefs, your feelings, your physical responses and your behaviour. I see therapy as an interactive process where I will be an active partner in our dialogue.Together, we can explore your situation and raise awareness as to how you have learnt to cope with life’s difficulties. This awareness I see as key in making long term changes in the way you live your life – awareness brings choice and change.

Duration of our work

The duration of counselling/psychotherapy can vary depending on what you want to gain from the work. Short-term work can be used to look at a specific issue, while longer-term therapy may allow you to address more complex or deep-seated issues.

Fees

My fee is £40 per 50 minute session.

I have had occasional experience of counselling down the years, and am mindful that when choosing a counsellor it can be as much about the therapist themselves as the therapy you experience with them. I approached Andy at a time of extreme stress in my life, and needed someone who could listen to and help me make sense of the intense pressure and emotional strain that I was under. I wanted someone who could give me an objective perspective and an informed, knowledgeable explanation of my situation. I also needed the practical ability to appropriately deal with the challenges I… Read more »
