Welcome! With so many therapists to choose from, it can be difficult to know how to select one! My name is Dr Amber Johnston, and I am a personable, outgoing Clinical Psychologist with many years of experience treating regular people struggling with the many stresses life throws at us all. With doctoral-level training, I have become experienced in a wide variety of treatment modalities, meaning that I get to know each client as an individual and work with that client to tailor techniques and strategies from many treatment options which fit their specific goals. And the relationship is everything, so building that trusting relationship is the high priority from the minute you walk through my door. The initial assessment will be our way forward, so do come see if I can help!
As a Clinical Psychologist trained in the United States of America, I have had a broad range of training and/or supervision in modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and the new-wave CBT treatments such as Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). Psychodynamic therapy was my original treatment modality of choice, but I have since become well-versed in more practical, problem-solving treatments, including motivation and behaviour work. With these treatment options, I liked to be eclectic and tailor a treatment approach that is collaborative to find the right techniques that work for you.
I have specialised in Clinical Psychology in mostly medical hospital settings. This means I have specialised with those suffering from stress and emotional responses to a variety of health-related diagnoses, including neurological injury, medical illness diagnosis, and chronic pain. I also work with clients who need to make lifestyle changes after medical warnings, such as those who may need support and motivation to improve their diet and exercise routines or to cut back on smoking/alcohol habits. Some of the more common general issues I treat include:
Stress, including time off work
Adapting to life changes
Coming to see me for an initial assessment will be the surest way to know if this treatment is right for you. Sessions begin at 130 pounds/50 minutes but discounts and discretionary pricing are available, particularly with those choosing a package of sessions.
I accept most major private insurances, so please contact your provider for details of having your treatment covered.
