About Harper Counselling

I am a professionally qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Psychotherapist. Based in Helensburgh, I can offer help and guidance with many issues, including;

General Anxiety/Social Anxiety/Depression/Self-esteem/Sexual Abuse/ Fear of Flying/ Relationship Difficulties/Career/Family/Health & Wellbeing / Public Speaking/
OCD / Phobias.

CBT is a type of talking therapy. It aims to help you manage problems by enabling you to recognise how your own thoughts can affect your feelings and behaviour.

I can offer Person Centered Counselling, Solution Focussed Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

CBT combines a cognitive approach (examining your thoughts) with a behavioural approach (the things you do). It aims to break overwhelming problems down into smaller parts, making them easier to manage.

Cognitive behavioural therapy has become one of the most popular forms of talking therapy.

It is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for common mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.

During treatment I will work with you and help you focus on the ”here and now”. This will help you recognise how past events may have shaped your thinking and behaviours.

Counselling aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable.

It provides a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings.

I hold the professional qualification of Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I have a Post Graduate level COSCA validated Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Counselling and Group work. I work as an Integrative Practitioner.

As a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBAC) and a Member of Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA), I practice and adhere to their Ethical Framework and the Professional Conduct procedure within it.
This can be found on the BACP website at:www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework

As well as seeing clients at my Private Practice, I am working as a school counsellor seeing pupils in school referred by guidance staff.

I have over 12 years experience supporting male and female survivors of sexual abuse (recent and historic cases).

I am qualified in applied suicide intervention skills training (ASIST) and have completed training to Designated Child Protection Officer level.

I have worked with the Ministry of Defence, Police Scotland, Samaritans, Choose Life, Cancer Support Scotland, Rape Crisis and Carers Trust.

As a counsellor I am there to support you and respect your views.
