Sutton Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counsellor in Sutton, Berkshire

As an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist I draw from Person Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive (CBT) approaches. Having completed a Mindfulness course, I incorporate this into my practice.
Person-centred therapy considers that you are the best authority of your own life experience, and hold the resources to maximise your own growth. I aim to offer the ‘core conditions’ of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness which are necessary for growth to occur.
Cognitive therapy (CBT) enables us to learn how our thoughts influence our moods. Through this learning we can recognise negative thoughts which create distress so we can challenge and replace them.
Psychodynamic therapy is based on the belief that our infant and childhood experiences affect our current behaviour and thinking. It helps us to consider unconscious thought processes so that we can understand possible causes of our difficulties and manage them more effectively.
Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally. A mindfulness approach can provide a practical way of managing serious disturbance.
