About Patsy Edmonds BA(Hons) MBACP Registered and Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist

Talking to a counsellor allows you to freely explore the difficult challenges of life, increase self-awareness, and find solutions to your problems. Counselling and psychotherapy provides a safe space for you to explore difficulties and painful issues that may be affecting you. It is a time for you to ‘just be’ with a therapist and can be immensely beneficial. Counselling and psychotherapy can help uncover the underlying causes of worries or addictive behaviour that will eventually lead to change and help you find new ways to cope and restores balance and harmony to your life.

I offer regular one to one weekly (including Saturdays and evenings) counselling sessions to support and help you develop insights into your problems, by using your own resources, strengths and understanding to move forward. Not all people experience emotional difficulties in the same way, and may not all want the same kind of help. As an integrative practitioner, my focus is working relationally, drawing from various approaches to suit the individual’s needs with a respectful, non-judgmental and personal approach. My broad training base in counselling allows me to tailor our work to your personal needs in a confidential environment, providing short or long term therapy.

Depression, Anxiety and Stress
I work at a hospital specialising in the treatment of mental health conditions, where I facilitate group therapy and individual therapy for the most challenging cases of depression, anxiety and stress.

Addiction
I am a practicing addiction counsellor at an addiction agency providing support for people dealing with the challenges of their addiction to gambling, porn, drug and alcohol. These problems can be a response to past traumas. I believe people can make changes given the right opportunity to deal with their experiences. I also offer support to the family and friends who deal with issues surrounding the addiction of their loved ones.

Employee Assistance Programme
I work for several Employee Assistance Programme providers, helping people to deal with such issues as anxiety, stress and depression including work issues I provide short term counselling (6 sessions), on and off work site to increase motivation, improve employees wellbeing, increase stress awareness to reduce absences.

Relationships, Bereavement and Illnesses
I have worked at a local surgery offering a safe space for people to talk through a range of emotional issues including difficulties with relationships, anxiety, depression, bereavement and illnesses.

I have worked at a Christian counselling agency providing confidential counselling and psychotherapy services for people who have needed help with personal problems, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual preference, culture or faith.

I have a psychiatric nursing background. I trained as a psychiatric nurse in South Africa and have experience with a wide range of mental health illnesses having worked in acute and chronic psychiatric hospitals and well-being centres.

I am a registered and accredited member of the BACP and I attend regular supervision and continue to pursue courses for my on-going professional development. I am fully insured and I have an up to date criminal record check conducted by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
